Digging tools and upgrades
The tool ladder costs 150 Rolls in total — shovel 25, spatula 45, trowel 80 — and each tier digs the next layer. Dynamite shortcuts rock; bigger sacks cut the trips to the seller.

The tool ladder: 150 Rolls to the bottom
Four digging tools exist, and the game gates its layers behind them. The whole mandatory ladder costs 150 Rolls:
| Tool | Price | Approx. dig speed | Unlocks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spoon | free | baseline | Grass layer under the carpet |
| Shovel | 25 Rolls | +16 | Upper dirt layers |
| Spatula | 45 Rolls | +17 | Deeper dirt layer |
| Trowel | 80 Rolls | +19 | Grey rock and the yellow sand floor |
Buy the next tool before the layer that needs it, not after — digging a rock layer with a spatula is the slowest way to spend energy in the game. Each tier replaces the last; you never carry two.
Dynamite: the rock-layer shortcut
Dynamite shows up in the trade inmates' stock and does what a tool cannot: one placed charge opens a wide pocket of blocks instantly. It does not hurt you, it does not alert the guard, and it works from any layer the tool you own can touch. Two uses:
- Rock layers, where shovel-speed digging drags.
- Windfalls. Blast a pocket, then sweep a whole ring of loot in one trip instead of chips.
If you see it in a stall and you are about to dig deep, buy it. It is one of the few purchases that is cheaper than the time it saves.
Sacks: the other upgrade
Your starting sack fills in minutes, and every trip to the seller costs digging time. The trade inmates sell bigger sacks — storage upgrades in the +8 to +20 range — and the maths is simple: doubling your carrying capacity roughly halves your surface trips. Experienced players buy storage before dig speed once the shovel is in hand, because trips are the real bottleneck.
| Upgrade | Roughly | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| First storage bump | +8 | Buy it the first time it appears under 50 Rolls |
| Bigger sack | +20 | The single best quality-of-life buy in the early game |
| Second speed tool | spatula/trowel | Mandatory for progress — buy it regardless of storage |
Food and energy items
- Free lunch at the cafeteria: one full refill per day, always take it.
- Trader food — chicken legs, pizza, apples: cheap top-ups, buy 2–3 when you can.
- Energy syringes from the shops: an instant max-energy hit. Best saved for the last stretch of a dig, when walking back would waste the walk.
The Robux game passes
Two permanent passes sit in the store. Both are optional, and both are one-time purchases:

OP Drill [Permanent] — 695 Robux. A permanently owned drill — the heavy-duty tool for players who run the mineshaft daily and want rock layers to stop being a chore.

X-Ray Goggles [Permanent] — 395 Robux. See-through vision: the walls stop hiding what is behind them. The lighter pass of the two, and the favourite of players who like to see the whole board.
What not to spend on
- A second copy of a tool you already own — the tier replaces the last, so the money is simply gone.
- Deep-layer food marches. If you are low and the next layer is rock, surface and reset the run's rhythm.
- Anything before the shovel. The first tool pays for itself; everything else is taste.
